Interview - Greg Kihn

By John Jeffrey

Greg Kihn is an 80's music icon, mostly known for his two catchy, chart-topping hits, “The Breakup Song (They Don’t Write ‘Em)" in 1981 and the 1983 smash single, “Jeopardy,” which charted at #2 on the Billboard Top 100.  First signed in 1973 to the now legendary record label, Beserkley Records, Greg was the focal point of a roster at that time, which included Jonathan Richman, Earthquake and The Rubinoos - artists who all performed and recorded melodic pop music with a strong 60's pop sensibility.  In 1976, after his debut on the compilation 'Beserkley Chartbusters,' he recorded his first album with his own ensemble - The Greg Kihn Band - comprising Robbie Dunbar (guitar), Steve Wright (bass), and Larry Lynch (drums).

Throughout the 1970s, Kihn released an album each year and built a strong cult following through constant touring, becoming Beserkley's biggest seller.   Kihn scored his biggest hit with "Jeopardy" (1983), from the 'Kihnspiracy' album.  Greg’s groundbreaking video for “Jeopardy” became one of the first concept videos and was played extensively on MTV during the early days of the then fledging video channel.  The Greg Kihn Band also spent much of the 80's touring with the likes of Journey, The Rolling Stones and the Grateful Dead, and also appearing on popular TV shows including Solid Gold, American Bandstand and Saturday Night Live.

Kihn also carved out a very successful 16 year career as a top rated DJ on KFOX in San Jose, California, rising from a late night host, to becoming one of the top-rated morning jocks in his area - the nation’s fourth largest market - before leaving the station in 2012.

Just releasing his first album of all new material in 21 years, entitled 'ReKihndled,' Kihn is now doing some touring, featuring his son, Ry Kihn, on lead guitar.  The Greg Kihn Band will be performing in the WNY area when they perform a free show at the Canal Side Concert Series on July 29th.

Rock Music Star recently had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with Greg Kihn, discussing his latest CD release, having his son performing by his side onstage, and reflecting back on his 40+ year music career.

Interview - Liv Sin - Liv Jagrell

By Thomas S. Orwat Jr.

As singer/songwriter of the Gothenburg, Sweden metal band, Sister Sin, Liv Jagrell was at the pinnacle of her career during the summer of 2015.  During that time, Sister Sin was touring North America on the Rockstar Mayhem tour, performing in front of thousands of metal lovin' fans.  Sister Sin's high energy performances on that tour helped win over many new fans, who patiently stood in long lines to meet the band after their performances.  The future looked very bright for Sister Sin.  After a decade of hard work, they were finally gaining the attention they deserved in North America.

After the Rockstar Mayhem tour, Sister Sin returned back to Sweden to take a short break before starting recording their next album. But when they returned from the break, the unthinkable happened.  Guitarist, Jimmy Hiltula, and bassist, Andreas Strandh, decided that they didn't want to tour anymore, resulting in Sister Sin's untimely demise.

Jagrell was devasted.  But, soon after, she rose from the ashes and put together a new, heavy and hungry-for-success band, called LIV SIN.   In addition to Jagrell, LIV SIN consists of outstanding musicians: Patrick Ankermark - guitar, Per Bjelovuk - drums, Chris Bertzell - guitar, and Tommie Winthe - bass.

LIV SIN's debut record, entitled, 'Follow Me,' was released on April 28th, and features 11 incredible, traditional heavy metal style tracks.  'Follow Me,' is a true heavy metal masterpiece and could very well be Jagrell's most solid and musically satisfying release, so far.

What follows is an exclusive Rock Music Star interview with one of the hottest and most talented vocalists in rock - Liv Jagrell.

Interview - Mark Slaughter

By Thomas S. Orwat Jr.

Mark Slaughter, vocalist/songwriter of the multi-platinum, hard rock/glam-metal band, Slaughter will be releasing his second solo record entitled, 'Halfway There,' on May 26th.  The first single from this release, "Hey You," was posted last month, and has already received very positive feedback from both fans and music critics.

Mark Slaughter emerged from the ashes of ex-Kiss guitarist, Vinnie Vincent's band, Vinnie Vincent Invasion (VVI).  As the lead singer of the VVI from 1986-88, Slaughter was an impressive frontman with his great stage performances and vocal abilities.  After, VVI record label, Chrysalis Records became frustrated with band leader, Vinnie Vincent's erratic behavior, they offered Mark Slaughter, along with VVI  bassist, Dana Strum, a new record contact to start their own band, which became, "Slaughter."

Slaughter's first record, "Stick it to Ya," was a huge success, selling over two million units, and had two Top 40 singles, "Up all Night," and, "Fly to The Angels."

Slaughter went on to record four more studio records, and still continues to tour and perform to their devoted fan base.

What follows is an exclusive RMS interview with rock music icon, Mark Slaughter.
