Concert review - Alice Cooper - First Arena, Elmira, NY - September 26, 2016

Review by John Jeffrey, photos by Thomas S. Orwat Jr.

Elmira, NY - Aside from a period during the 80's (up through the mid 90's), you can always pretty much guarantee that an Alice Cooper show is nothing short of spectacular.  From the over the top theatrics, to the sheer dedication of the multiple incarnations and lineups of the Cooper solo band - replicating all of classic material the way the fans expect it to sound - Alice Cooper is perhaps the most consistent live act in the history of rock and roll.

Interview - The Dead Daisies - John Corabi

By Thomas S. Orwat Jr.

The Dead Daisies, the classic-rock influenced super group - formed by Australian businessman, aviator and musician Dave Lowy- have increasingly earned the respect from many music fans and critics alike.  Since their inception in 2013, the band has gone through many line-up changes.  However, The Dead Daisies current line-up is the strongest one yet.  In addition to Lowy, The Dead Daisies currently consist of all-star musicians: John Corabi (Motley Crue, Union) - vocals, Doug Aldrich (Whitesnake, DIO, Hurricane) - guitar, Marco Mendoza (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Ted Nugent) - bass and Brian Tichy (Whitesnake, Foreigner) - drums.

The Dead Daisies are currently opening for KISS on the "Freedom to Rock" tour, performing to thousands of people every show.  Also, their recent hard rockin' release,"Make Some Noise," produced by acclaimed producer-Marti Frederiksen (Aerosmith, Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Buckcherry) - is certainly making some noise of its own.  This impressive 12-track recording is brilliantly produced, and really brings out the skills of each member to a higher level.  'Make Some Noise,' could very well be the best rock record released this year.

We, here at RMS, had the opportunity to hang out with this amazing band in Rochester, NY on August 29, 2016.  We witnessed their acoustic in-store performance, and then their opening for KISS, kick-ass, 45-minute set.

What follows is an exclusive interview with John Corabi, vocalist of The Dead Daisies.  Here's what John had to say:

Concert review - Def Leppard - Darien Lake PAC, Darien, NY - August 23, 2016

Review / photos by John Jeffrey

Darien, NY - As summer winds down, on the last day of August 2016, one of the most anticipated concert tours made it's way to Western New York.  The triple bill of Def Leppard, Reo Speedwagon and Tesla rolled it's way into the Darien Lake PAC last Wednesday night.  This bill, while almost identical to the lineup which came to Darien Lake last year (Reo Speedwagon were the less than palatable replacement for last year's Styx), did not fail to excite the masses, as the concert drew approximately 13,000 - not too shabby for a rock concert on a week night.

Concert review - KISS - “Freedom To Rock” 2016 tour

Review / photos - John Jeffrey

When KISS had announced their 2016 Summer “Freedom To Rock” tour in America, it came as somewhat of a surprise, as there was much speculation regarding whether or not KISS would tour this year in the US, as it was heavily rumored that KISS would be doing a European trek this time around.  In addition, there was some discussion about KISS doing the Live Nations sheds, but KISS' opted to stay cool this summer by playing mostly indoor arenas, instead of the hot and sweaty, outdoor amphitheaters.

Concert review - ZZ Top - Darien Lake PAC, Darien, NY - August 23, 2016

Review / Photos by Thomas S. Orwat Jr.

Darien NY - Classic rock legends, ZZ Top (consisting of all three original members - Billy F. Gibbons - guitar/vocals, Dusty Hill - bass/vocals, Frank Beard - drums), returned to the WNY area for what seems to be becoming an annual summer event.  This time around, the "little-'ol-band from Texas," which formed in 1969, played in front of approximately 4000, in an amphitheater with the capacity of 21,000.  While there were a few younger people in the audience, the majority of patrons were 45 years of age or older - much older in some cases.
