Interview - Zombie Motors Wrecking Yard - Ran

By Thomas S. Orwat Jr.

Hailing from Victoria, Australia, Zombie Motors Wrecking Yard is a reckless, nasty and weed-loving five-piece band that blends the influences of Stoner rock, ZZ Top, and AC/DC, with a heavy dose of Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n Roll.  This hard hitting quintet consists of members: Ran- vocals, Darren - Guitar, Coop - bass, Marc- guitar, Leigh - drums.  Zombie Motors Wrecking Yard will be unleashing their uncompromising and contagious, new album, 'Supersonic Rock n' Roll,' this February 24th, on Napalm Records.

What follows is an exclusive Rock Music Star interview with Zombie Motors Wrecking Yard vocalist, Ran.

RockMusicstar's Top 10 of 2016

Unfortunately, 2016 has demonstrated what seems to be the ongoing decline in interest for new music (at least, anything carrying a "rock and roll" tag attached to it).  In the past year, there were a slew of great releases, which, for the most part, seemed to fly under the radar, not getting the recognition they deserve.  Even long-standing "rock" stalwarts like the Rolling Stones and the Heavy Metal juggernauts, Metallica- while both having great initial release week sales- in the end, appear to have only received lukewarm responses from their fan bases, and the music community in general.
Nevertheless, we, here at Rock Music Star, love and appreciate new music, and like every year, we've compiled our Top 10 releases of the year.  Take a minute, to look back with us, at our favorite releases of 2016:

Review - Kiss - Monster Mini Golf's first ever 'KISSmas' party

By John Jeffrey

Las Vegas, NV - This past Saturday, Rock Music Star was on hand for the KISS Monster Mini Golf's first ever 'KISSmas' party, located at the mini golf's new location, inside of the beautiful Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.  In this current age of paid meet & greets (KISS being one of the first to pioneer these highly debated fan packages), to be able to meet a member of KISS for free, is truly an early KISSmas present for their fans.  The event had a great turn out, as many on hand were KISS Kruise attendees from all around the world, and what seemed like fans from the whole western US, Canada, and people flying in from as far away as Japan.

Not very rock and roll hobbies of the world's biggest rock stars

Not very rock and roll hobbies of the world's biggest rock stars

Have you ever wondered what some of the world’s most famous and talented rock stars do in their downtime? We may think that they live very rock and roll lifestyles with extreme hobbies such as skydiving and bungee jumping –but this is not always the case. Having looked into some of our favorite rock stars, their hobbies are a bit less rock and roll than we had imagined. Here are the five top unusual, and not very rock and roll hobbies of the world’s biggest rock stars.

Johnny Rotten

Johnny Rotten, the Sex Pistols member rock star has a very unlikely hobby; Bingo! Who would have thought that a game so fun would be something on the top of Mr. Johnny Rotten’s hobbies? The 60 year old has confessed to being a big bingo fan. And we cannot blame him, bingo has recently been experiencing a huge resurgence in popularity, especially with the best bingo games now being available online too.

Mick Jagger

Rock Star Mick Jagger is a huge Cricket fan. It is most certainly not a very rock and roll sport, and we had him pegged for more of a boxing or a wrestling fanatic –but no, Mick loves his Cricket! Jagger enjoys going to watch Cricket matches while overseas when the English team are playing. While Cricket is his favorite, Jagger is reportedly also a football and tennis fan too!

Ozzy Osbourne

Painting is something that Ozzy Osbourne loves to do! It may seem hard to believe that Ozzy likes to paint. But music and art are both creative, and Ozzy’s painting style has a dark side to it. But wow, can he paint! It may not seem like a very typical rock and roll type of hobby, but Ozzy is not painting rainbows and butterflies, that is for sure!

Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix was an avid reader, having loved science fiction especially. It is hard to imagine one of our all-time biggest rock stars sitting cuddled up with a book. In addition to science fiction, Hendrix also loved children’s books too. Jimmi apparently loved reading fairy tales, as well as childhood favorites such as Winnie the Pooh and Hans Christian Anderson’s collection of children’s stories.

Rod Stewart

Rod Stewart’s unlikely hobby is model train collecting. Yes, you read correctly –Rod Stewart likes to collect model trains. He has been dedicated to this hobby for over two decades now, making this something he takes very seriously. He has a complete replica of New York’s Grand Central Station, which is his prized possession.

So there you have it, five super famous rock stars who have very unlikely not so rock-and-roll hobbies. Hopefully you learned something new today about some of the world’s greatest rock legends! It goes to show that people are multi-faceted and can have multiple interests. Just because someone is a rock star, it does not mean that they do not have a softer side.

Concert review - Alice Cooper - First Arena, Elmira, NY - September 26, 2016

Review by John Jeffrey, photos by Thomas S. Orwat Jr.

Elmira, NY - Aside from a period during the 80's (up through the mid 90's), you can always pretty much guarantee that an Alice Cooper show is nothing short of spectacular.  From the over the top theatrics, to the sheer dedication of the multiple incarnations and lineups of the Cooper solo band - replicating all of classic material the way the fans expect it to sound - Alice Cooper is perhaps the most consistent live act in the history of rock and roll.
