Mike Tramp / Jim Crean- Samuel’s Grande Manor, Williamsville, NY – 10/04/2023

BY THOMAS S. ORWAT, JR.

Williamsville, NY – Legendary vocalist/songwriter Mike Tramp, formerly of the multi-platinum-selling 80s hard rock band White Lion, returned to perform an intimate, stripped-down 14-song show to an enthusiastic crowd of loyal fans last night at Samuel’s Grande Manor, a spacious banquet hall in Williamsville, New York. Unlike his previous show at this venue on June 1st, where he played as a duo with guitar superstar Marcus Nand, Tramp had a full band this time around. In addition to Nand, Jerry Best on bass and Brentt James Arcement on drums rounded out the line-up.

Tramp, a native of Copenhagen, Denmark, turned 62 on January 14th, and is currently on tour in support of his April 14, 2023 release, “Songs of White Lion”. This record consists of White Lion songs reimagined and re-recorded in a style more suitable for a 62-year-old singer. Tramp explained to the audience that he decided to dig his heels into his White Lion catalog again last year, after several years of solo work.

Tramp captivated the audience with White Lion’s classics songs and his intriguing tales about the challenges and rewards of being a part of one of the most popular bands of the 80s. Tramp also included one song, “Have You Ever,” a beautiful ballad from his 1998 solo record “Capricorn,” mid-way through the show.

Highlights of the evening included the epic power ballad, “Till Death Do Us Part” which Tramp dedicated to the couple in the front of the stage, the big White Lion hits “Wait” and “Little Fighter.”

Overall, this was another great concert experience. Tramp showed his amazing voice and charisma in a laid-back setting. The music lovers of the Buffalo, NY area where very fortunate to have the opportunity to see two incredible Mike Tramp shows in 4 months.

If you are a fan of Mike Tramp or White Lion, or if you enjoy acoustic rock music with soulful vocals and meaningful lyrics, you should definitely check out his new record “Songs of White Lion” and catch him live if you get the chance. You won’t regret it.

Opening the show was WNY music legend Jim Crean and his Hair Nation Band. They warmed up the crowd with their energetic performance and impressive musicianship and played a great set that included impressive covers of iconic rock songs “Dream On,” “Sink Your Teeth” and “Balls to the Wall” and many more.
