BY THOMAS S. ORWAT, JR.
Welcome to episode #87 of the Rock Interview Series, where I talk to some of the most influential and inspiring rock musicians of our time. Today, I have the honor of interviewing Robby Takac, the bassist, vocalist, and songwriter of the multi-platinum selling band from Buffalo, NY – The Goo Goo Dolls. Robby is one of the founding members of the band along with John Rzeznik. The Goo Goo Dolls have been active since 1986 and has sold over 12 million albums worldwide. Robby is also the founder and president of Music is Art, a non-profit organization that supports and promotes music education and artistic expression in Western New York.
In this candid conversation, Robby talks about the recent release of “Live at the Academy, New York City, 1995”, a live album that captures the band’s raw and energetic performance that was recorded in December 1995, 2 months after the band’s first major single “Name” hit the charts.
Robby also shares some of the band’s past history, such as talking about their early touring days. He also reveals some of the band’s future plans, such as working on new material and touring plans for 2024. Finally, he talks about his passion for Music is Art, and how the festival, which takes place in his hometown of Buffalo, NY the second Saturday of September, has grown over the years.
This is a must-listen interview for any fan of the Goo Goo Dolls, or anyone who loves rock music in general. Robby is a humble and genuine person, who has a lot of wisdom and experience to share. He also has a great sense of humor, and a knack for storytelling. And as a bonus, he reveals his top 5 most favorite records of all time, which might surprise you. So sit back, relax, and enjoy this episode of the Rock Interview Series with Robby Takac of the Goo Goo Dolls.
