Rock music fans are buzzing with excitement as the new supergroup Close Enemies prepares to release their debut single, “Sound of a Train,” on January 17th. Close Enemies features legendary bassist Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith, drummer Tony Brock (Rod Stewart band, The Babys), guitarist Peter Stroud (Sheryl Crow band), guitarist Trace Foster, and vocalist Chasen Hampton. Together, they promise to deliver a unique sound that blends the best of classic and contemporary rock.
In an exclusive interview with Thomas S. Orwat, Jr. of the Rock Interview Series, Close Enemies guitarist/songwriter Trace Foster shared insights into the band’s formation and creative process. ” We didn’t have any idea what was going to happen when we first got together, but then it pretty quickly became evident how amazing it was really going to be. We really just kind of hit it off and locked in, started writing and working, and we’re definitely ready for 2025 and hopefully we will live up to your expectations.”
“Sound of a Train” the band’s first scheduled to be released single is a powerful introduction to Close Enemies’ musical identity. When asked why they chose this particular track as their debut single, Foster explained, “Back in the day when we did records in the 70s and the 80s, you would never lead with your strongest song. That would always be like single number three that would take you over the top. Unfortunately, in the world that we’re in now, people’s attention spans are so short. We just felt that we really had to basically hit you over the head with what we’re all about, and that song really, really is what we’re all about. It’s got great guitars, great vocals, it’s just cool.”
Foster recounted the serendipitous events that brought the band together: “I started this band like two years ago as an idea of, you know, I’m not ready to ride off into the sunset. I’ve done a bunch of stuff in my life, and I just felt that I had something more musical to say. I started working with this guy named Gary Steer, a singer-songwriter friend of mine that I’d played with since the 80s. We just started writing songs, and ‘Sound of a Train’ was the first song we wrote together.”
Foster recalled the moment he realized he needed to involve Hamilton: “I was in Las Vegas working with Tom and Aerosmith, and I thought, the best bass player you know is standing right over there. I walked up to Tom and said, ‘Hey, got this really cool thing going on, this really cool music thing going on,’ and he said, ‘Send me what you got.’ Three hours later, after I sent him some tracks, he was like, ‘I’m in too, this is amazing.'”
As Close Enemies prepares to unleash their sound onto the world, Foster’s confidence in the band’s future is unwavering: “We really just kind of hit it off and locked in. And we’re definitely ready for 2025 and hopefully we will live up to your expectations.” With such a talented lineup and a rock-solid debut track, there’s no doubt that Close Enemies will rock the music world in 2025 and beyond.
