Dario Lorina guitarist in Black Label Society talks about his new band Dark Chapel and much more.

Welcome to episode #114 of the Rock interview series. This episode features Dario Lorina, the co- guitarist of the metal band Black Label Society. Dario has had an impressive career trajectory, having been recruited by ex-Warrant vocalist Janie Lane at just 16 years old to be his lead guitarist. Later, Dario joined shock rocker Lizzy Borden’s band and stayed with them for four years. Since 2014, he has been a vital part of Black Label Society, teaming up with metal guitar legend Zakk Wylde.

In 2024, Dario launched a new band, Dark Chapel, which is set to release its debut album, “Spirit in the Glass,” on February 28th on MNRK Heavy. During our interview, Dario discussed his new project, Dark Chapel, his ongoing journey with Black Label Society, and reflected on his past and future in the music industry.

Dark Chapel has released two singles: “Hallow Smile” and “Glass Heart,” so far. Both songs have been incredibly well-received, with impressive music videos. When asked why he chose these tracks as the first singles, Dario shared, “I had a hard time picking the first song. I just picked one and went with it. ‘Glass Heart’ was the first, followed by ‘A Hollow Smile.’ These were actually two of the newest songs I wrote for the album. I wrote half the album a few years ago and completed the rest of the writing this past year.”

Dark Chapel is a relatively new band, formed in 2024. Dario shared the process of bringing the band together, saying, “I live in Vegas, so I found these guys here. Some were friends of mine.” The lineup includes Brody DeRozie (guitar), Mike Gunn (bass), and Luis Silva (drums).

Dario revealed some potential tour plans when asked. Dark Chapel is looking at a combination of headlining shows and opening slots.

As the primary songwriter for Dark Chapel, Dario demos the music and brings it to rehearsal for the band’s feedback. “I write a lot of the music and demo it out. Then we vibe it out as a band. Arrangement-wise, I have the songs arranged, and the guys add their feel to it,” he explained.

The music video for “Hollow Smile” features a dark and compelling image that perfectly fits Dark Chapel’s aesthetic. Dario mentioned, “That’s naturally how we look. Justin Reich, who does a lot of Black Label videos, made it look killer.” He also shared that Alice in Chains has been a significant musical influence for Dark Chapel.

Dark Chapel currently has over 6000 monthly listeners with only two singles released.

Dario’s career began with Janie Lane and progressed through Lizzy Borden and Black Label Society. Each experience has shaped his musicianship. “Lizzy Borden is a very theatrical rock band. The guitar work in those bands is very complicated and made me grow as a guitarist,” Dario reflected.

Dario is involved with both Black Label Society and Dark Chapel. He is committed to giving his all to both projects. ” I’ll work as hard as I can on both,” he said. He even entertained the idea of performing with both bands on the same night, laughing, “That’d be amazing. I could definitely do that.”
