Welcome to episode 141 of the Rock Interview Series. February 26th, 2026.
For this feature, I’m joined by Gil Moore — drummer, vocalist, and founding member of the legendary rock band Triumph. Recorded on February 26th, 2026.
Formed in 1975, Triumph’s classic lineup featured Moore, Rik Emmett on guitar and vocals, and Mike Levine on bass.
During this interview, Moore talks about the upcoming Triumph tour — the Rock n’ Roll Machine Reloaded Tour — which kicks off April 10 in Orlando, Florida, and includes a Western New York date on June 3rd at Darien Lake PAC.
For this tour, the band will also feature Phil X on guitar — who was a member of Triumph during 1992–93 and played on their final studio album, Edge of Excess. They’ll also be joined by Brent Fitz on drums and Todd Kerns on bass.
Moore also opens up about the shift in his life that finally made touring possible again. As he put it, “I never wanted to be away when my kids were growing up, but they’re adults now — and they’re more enthusiastic about the tour than anybody.” With his family deeply involved in MetalWorks, he explains that the dynamics have changed and the timing finally felt right.
He also addresses the question of how much touring he’s comfortable committing to. “We’re already getting pushed for more dates,” he says, noting discussions about a possible fall swing to hit cities they’re missing this time around. But he emphasizes a grounded approach: “We’ve got to put one foot in front of the other. We’ve got to play these shows, see how people react, and see how we feel on stage.”
Moore also talks candidly about getting back into playing shape. “Rick and I have been back in the gym and woodshedding on our instruments,” he says. “A lot of it’s come back very quickly for me on drums.” He even shares the story of calling Styx drummer Lawrence Gowan for advice after finally agreeing to the tour: “He told me the three most important things: sing and play drums every day… sing and play drums every day… and sing and play drums every day.”
A great conversation with Gil at an important moment in Triumph’s history.
