Niagara Falls, NY – Legendary “Prog fathers,” the Moody Blues, celebrated and confirmed why they’ve been one of rock’s most vital and underrated resources for 45 years! Their appearance at the Seneca Events center was the last stop of their “Days of Future Passed” anniversary tour, giving their fans a stellar night of timeless tunes. The show was a short, yet sublime (approx.) 90 minute set, which proved to be nothing less than a mystical, musical journey.
The group (comprised of the core of the original lineup, Justin Heyward-vocals/guitar, John Lodge – bass/vocals, and Graeme Edge -drums/vocals) quickly got the night going as they broke into some of their signature songs, such as “Steppin’ In a Slide Zone,” transcending the audience into the progressive ages of time, which proved to be just as potent as ever. The musical voyage was brilliantly accompanied by a backdrop of kaleidoscope landscape images and other psychedelic imagery.
Exquisite flute solos by multi-instrumentalist Norda Mullen , followed by countless standing ovations, were true signs of the band’s ability to expertly and effortlessly expand rock’s sonic halcyon horizons. Bassist John Lodge’s double neck bass guitar was a key highlight during “Isn’t Life Strange,” as the song was sung with the utmost powerful conviction of lost love, connecting the entire audience as one.
The unforgettable evening’s spiritual celebration of a most enlightening musical experience was deeply conveyed in the group’s most recognizable signature hit, “Nights in White Satin.” The mesmerizing melodies were brought to life, as they finished the show with a much deserved encore of the fan favorite, “Ride My See Saw.” Again, some may have considered the performance too short, but undoubtedly, every true fan was quite moved, emotionally and eternally!
