During the last decade, there has been an onslaught of entertaining rock books published. But the new book written by former editor-in-chief of SPIN magazine and long-time editor at Entertainment Weekly, Doug Brod, is absolutely required reading for any fan of rock music. “They Just Seem a Little Weird”- How KISS, Cheap Trick, Aerosmith, and Starz Remade Rock and Roll,” is a 268 page novel that skillfully interweaves the early careers of three legendary rock bands and one band that had the potential, but fell short.

Released on December 1, 2020, “They Just Seem a Little Weird” was a true labor of love for author Doug Brod. With great attention to historic detail, coupled with quotes and stories from over 130 interviews, Brod delivers a book that accurately depicts the hard work, struggles and high points of four great American bands navigating through the cut throat music recording industry of the 1970’s.

What follows is episode #12 of the “Glam Metal Interview Series.” All four bands featured in this book were extremely influential on the glam-metal movement that followed during the 1980’s.

During this video interview, author Doug Brod explains his inspiration behind the writing of his critically acclaimed book. Brod talks about how KISS, Cheap Trick, Aerosmith and Starz were able to sustain a long term (almost 50 years) career and some of the factors that may have prevented Starz from accomplishing the same.
