Vinny Appice – Black Sabbath, DIO, Heaven & Hell, Derringer, John Lennon, Drum Wars – “Glam Metal” Interview Series Episode #19

What follows is an exclusive interview with rock music legend, drummer Vinny Appice.

During this interview, Vinny discusses his amazing career. From performing with John Lennon, to joining Derringer (Rick Derringer) and then leaving to form his own band AXS and deciding to pass up an opportunity to join Ozzy Osbourne’s new band, The Blizzard of OZ.

Vinny was then recruited by Tony Iommi in mid-1980 to fill in for Bill Ward on the Black Sabbath – Heaven & Hell tour, which featured a new lead singer in Black Sabbath- Ronnie James Dio. Vinny remained in Black Sabbath and recorded the classic album, “Mob Rules, ” which was released on November 4, 1981.

Vinny and Ronnie James Dio left Black Sabbath in 1982 and formed the band DIO, releasing 4 amazing records and selling out arenas all over the world with high energy shows and state-of-the-art stage production.

During the 1990’s, Vinny reunited with the DIO era Black Sabbath, and then after with Ronnie James Dio in DIO.

In 2005, Vinny, Ronnie, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler reunited one final time, naming the band Heaven & Hell. They remained together until Ronnie’s death on May 16, 2010.

Currently, Vinny is playing in the band, Last in Line, which also features ex DIO guitarist and current Def Leppard member -Vivian Campbell.
