The Midnight Cowgirls on currently on tour and performing at Bufalo Iron Works in Buffalo, NY this Monday, June 22nd.
Welcome to episode #149 of the Rock Interview Series, recorded on June 11th, 2026. My guest is Blaise Dahl, vocalist of the country/alternative band The Midnight Cowgirls. The band was formed in 2024 by songwriter, bassist, and fashion designer Jennie Vee. Their newest single “Born Ready” is their strongest track yet. The Midnight Cowgirls have the potential to be music superstars. With a short tour on the horizon, The Midnight Cowgirls are ready to rock your face off and break your heart. Let’s dive in and hear it straight from Blaise Dahl.
From the moment Blaise begins talking, her passion for the band’s mission is unmistakable. As she explains, “One of our main goals is the crowd leaving in such a better place than when they come in… everybody just kind of celebrating and having an amazing time.” That emotional lift is the heartbeat of The Midnight Cowgirls, and it’s a big part of why their fanbase is growing so quickly. They’re not just performing songs — they’re creating an atmosphere.
Musically, the band thrives on blending genres in a way that feels fresh and fearless. Blaise sums it up perfectly: “We like to call ourselves a little bit country, a little bit rock and roll.” Their new material pushes even further, mixing pop‑leaning hooks, gritty rock energy, and country storytelling. Several new tracks are already recorded, and Blaise reveals, “By the end of August, we’ll have four or five songs officially recorded… at least one of those is going to be released this month.” These songs, she adds, “have a little bit of pop to them, a little bit more in‑your‑face rock, but always with that country sensibility.” Southern rock influences like ZZ Top and the Allman Brothers seep into their arrangements, and they even give a nod to Shania Twain — “We love Shania Twain and we name‑check her in one of our songs.”
The band’s evolution has been shaped by a lineup that finally feels locked in. Blaise didn’t originally join as the lead singer; she came in as a keyboardist and backing vocalist. But as early members moved on to other projects and day‑job realities, the band slowly found the people who shared the same vision. Blaise’s long friendship with founder Jennie Vee — dating back to their days swapping roles in New York bands — became the creative backbone of the project. Blaise laughs as she recalls, “Everybody knows Jennie as this badass bassist… I was Jennie Vee’s bassist when she was the frontwoman.”
The turning point came when drummer Marley stepped in as a sub and immediately elevated the room. Blaise remembers the moment vividly: “It was one of those things where we were like, ‘Oh my god, where did you come from?’” Then came Cassidy, whose harmonies, arrangements, and meticulous preparation instantly proved she was the missing piece. “She made this binder with the Midnight Cowgirls logo printed on the front… everything charted out and highlighted. When you know, you know.” With this lineup, the band has spent the past year sharpening their sound into something confident, cohesive, and unmistakably theirs.
That versatility has already taken them across an impressive range of stages. They’ve opened for the Stray Cats, played a Stagecoach party with Nikki Lane and Dasha, and even shared a bill with Jack White. Blaise notes the range with pride: “We’ve played with Nikki Lane and Dasha… but we’ve also opened for Jack White.” They’ve also performed with Twin Temple, Reverend Horton Heat, proving they can fit seamlessly into rock, country, psychobilly, surf, or anything in between. As Blaise puts it, “No show is ever the same. That’s one of the strengths of this band — we don’t have to just open for a pop‑country artist or a rock artist.”
With “Born Ready” marking a new high point, a fresh batch of songs on the way, and a tour about to kick off, The Midnight Cowgirls are stepping into a moment that feels bigger than anything they’ve done before. They’re a band built on chemistry, ambition, and the thrill of blending genres until they explode. And as Blaise makes clear, they’re only getting started.
