Lewiston, NY- The Gruesome Twosome tour featuring Alice Cooper and Rob Zombie finished their two month tour at Artpark in Lewiston, NY on Saturday night. And what a night it was, not a dull monent from the first note of Alice to the last of Zombie. The two A-list rock legends lived up to their reputation of rock’em, shock’em and the nearly sold out audience ate it up with a grin.
The originator of shoch rock, Alice Cooper opened the show and slammed into one of his biggest hits “School’s Out.” It must be noted that Coop has an awesome band featuring Keri Kelli-guitar, Damon Johnson-guitar, Chuck Garric-bass and Jimmy Degrassi – drums. Alice proceeded with a set that included the majority of his greatest hits and almost of the classic Alice theatics were included, except there was no boa snake.
The most amazing aspect of this performance was the energy that Alice has. At the age of 62, Alice hasn’t lost a step. His performance was as always Amazing and his voice sounded just as good, especially considering that this was the last date of a two month tour. Alice has plans to play a few more shows this summer and also start recording a new cd. For more information check out my interview with guitarist Damon Johnson here.

Rob Zombie performed after Alice Cooper and his 75 minute set was just as entertaining. Opening the show with “Call of the Zombie” the all-star band , featuring guitar virtuoso John 5, ‘ Joey Jordison and Piggy D bass, come out wearing skull masks. Zombie and the band then shed the masks and rocked the crowd with a very energetic show and mind blowing stage show. Rob Zombie was at the top of his game, but his band is just out of this world, I mean c’mon the greatest guitarist and drummer in metal both in the same band!!! There were many highlights, including a drum solo by Joey Jordison, but the most impressive was Zombie walking up the arena stairs to see the people on the lawn area, all this while John 5 provided an awesome full out solo assault on his guitar during the Whitle Zombie classic “Thunder Kiss 65.”
Rob Zombie will be headlining this years RockStar Mayhem tour, I strongly suggest that you go out and see this. There aren’t many acts that put on the type of show that Zombie delivers. When was the last time you saw a giant robot, film clips featuring werewolves, ss women and Nicolas Cage and an A plus list band all at the same show? And hopefully we will also see more Gruesome Twosome dates this fall as well.
