During episode 129 of the Rock Interview Series, host Thomas S. Orwat, Jr. asked Goo Goo Dolls bassist Robby Takac about the possibility of a Rock n Roll Hall of Fame nomination. Takac didn’t hold back.
“Don’t hold your breath on that one, my friend,” he said. “You will suffocate and die from lack of air because I don’t think it’s going to happen… I think we’re a band of the people.”
Takac explained that while they know some of the folks behind the Hall, he’s not convinced the Goo Goo Dolls are the kind of band they’re looking for. “If they ask us, that’s great,” he added. “But I’m not holding my breath.”
Still, the band isn’t waiting around for industry recognition. Nearly four decades into their career, the Goo Goo Dolls are currently on their most successful tour yet—the sold-out “Summer Anthem” tour, playing to packed venues across the country. Just yesterday, they released a new 7-song EP titled “Summer Anthem”, and they’re performing four tracks from it live every night on their current tour.
With their 40th anniversary coming up in 2026, the Goo Goo Dolls are proving they don’t need a Hall of Fame nod to stay relevant—they’re still making music fans love and putting on shows that deliver.
