Batavia, NY – Last Friday night was the kickoff to the annual Batavia Downs “Rockin’ the Downs Concert Series.” This particular show featured Tommy DeCarlo, singer of the legendary classic rock band -BOSTON, plus opener Rudy Cardenas, who was a contestant on the American Idol TV show.
DeCarlo joined BOSTON in 2007, shortly after the tragic death of long time BOSTON vocalist Brad Delp. He was discovered by the leader of BOSTON, guitarist/songwriter/band leader-Tom Scholz. With BOSTON, DeCarlo has performed 326 shows and sang vocals on 4 tracks on BOSTON’s last studio release “Life, Love & Hope.”
While BOSTON is currently on a break, DeCarlo has decided to tour on his own and perform an evening of BOSTON classics with his incredible backing band, which consists of (DeCarlo’s son) Tommy DeCarlo, Jr. -guitar, Payton Velligan -bass, August Zadra – lead guitar, Michael Morales-drums, and Walter Tolentino – keyboards/guitar. This band also performed with opener Rudy Carenas and played a full set of hits from the iconic multi-platinum band Journey.
An appreciative and decent size crowd was treated to an evening of classic rock anthems by both artists. Many in the audience sang along to every hit song and enjoyed a perfect early summer night of great music performed by very talented musicians and two of the most impressive and dynamic vocalist in rock music today.
Highlights of the show included the incredible guitar performance of August Zadra. He played every guitar solo note -for-note perfect through out the evening. Also, Tommy DeCarlo vocals on the classic Boston hit “A Man I’ll Never Be” was absolutely stunning.
In summary, this was an AMAZING show and a great way to kick of the Summer of 2022. If this show come to your area, it is a must see event!!!
