April Wine’s Future, Unreleased Miles Goodwyn Material, and an Emotional Look Back – Rock Interview Series #159 with Brian Greenway

Welcome to Episode #159 of the Rock Interview Series, recorded on October 28, 2026. My guest for this episode is Brian Greenway, guitarist for the legendary Canadian rock band April Wine.

Brian joined April Wine in 1977 and is currently the only remaining member of the band’s classic late-1970s and 1980s lineup.

April Wine will be hitting the road this fall as the special guest on Triumph’s upcoming U.S. tour, which begins on November 13th.

In addition to Brian, the current lineup of April Wine features Marc Parent on lead vocals and guitar, Roy Nichol on drums, and Richard Lanthier on bass.

What follows is an exclusive interview with Brian Greenway, discussing the upcoming Triumph tour, carrying on the legacy of April Wine following the passing of band leader Myles Goodwyn, the stories behind some of the band’s biggest hits, future plans, and much more.

One of the most interesting revelations from our conversation involved the future of April Wine and whether fans can expect any new music.
“There is. We’d love to do it. I’d like to say that we will be doing it, but right now, with all the estate matters tied up, it’s difficult.”

Greenway explained that the band’s future plans, including the possibility of releasing new music, remain tied to the settlement of Myles Goodwyn’s estate.

“Miles handled the business side of things, and until the estate is settled, we can’t negotiate anything because we don’t own the name.”
He went on to discuss the unique position the band currently finds itself in.

“At this point, the name is owned by the family. Once everything gets sorted out, we’ll move forward. They want us to keep going.”

Perhaps the biggest surprise was the possibility that unreleased Miles Goodwyn material could still see the light of day.

“There was some talk about going through older demos he had that were never recorded.”

Greenway also revealed that a live document of an important chapter in April Wine’s history is already completed and waiting for the right time to be released.

“We also have a live album from 2022, our last show with Miles, and it’s essentially ready to be released.”

The conversation also turned emotional as Greenway reflected on seeing Goodwyn during what would be one of their final public appearances together after the band’s induction into the Canadian Walk of Fame.

“He seemed quieter than usual.”

“He was telling stories and even apologizing for things he’d done in the past, and I remember thinking that something seemed different.”

Greenway admitted that Goodwyn’s passing came as a surprise to many close to him.

“Yes, it was. I had no idea he was that ill.”

Discussing what ultimately happened, Greenway offered insight into the health challenges that Goodwyn faced in his final months.

“We knew the diabetes was affecting him, and that’s why he retired, but I think his actual cause of death was pancreatic cancer.”

The full interview features Brian Greenway’s thoughts on the upcoming Triumph tour, life in April Wine after Myles Goodwyn, unreleased music, a completed live album waiting in the wings, memories of the band’s legendary career, and much more.
