Welcome to episode #74 of the Rock Interview Series. For this feature, drummer Mark Miller is the special guest.
Mark Miller, a Rochester, NY native, started performing professionally during the mid 70’s. He caught the attention of bassist Billy Sheehan who was in a popular local band called Talas during this time. Mark and Billy worked together briefly in two different bands during the late 70’s.
In 1983, Billy revamped Talas, and recruited Mark to be their drummer. Shortly after, Talas released a live record entitled “Live Speed on Ice.” The line-up of Talas consisted of Mark Miller-drums, Billy Sheehan-bass, Phil Naro -vocals, and Mitch Perry-guitar. Mitch would soon be replaced by Johny Angel.
Mark remained with Talas until late 1985, when Billy Sheehan left the band to join up with ex-Van Halen vocalist David Lee Roth.
Then in 2017, Billy, Mark and vocalist Phil Naro decided to reform Talas and added new guitarist Kire Najdovski.
In 2022, Talas released their 3rd studio record, first with this line-up, entitled “1985.”
What follows is an exclusive interview with Mark Miller, in which he talks about the new Talas record, his past history, the passing of Talas vocalist Phil Naro, a new track “Love For Sale” and much more.
